The four-class series will focus on empowering residents to lift their voice in the community. LINC is committed to ensuring that all community members can live, work, and play in Grand Rapids.

OurCity Academy class dates and topics are as follows:

  • October 9, 5:00 – 6:15 City Structure and How it Works.
    Presenter: Tom Almonte, Managing Director.
  • October 23, 5:00 – 6:15 City Attorney’s Office and its functions.
    Presenter: Anita Hitchcock, City Attorney
  • November 6, 5:00 – 6:15 City Budget and Where your dollar goes.
    Presenter: Jon Globensky, City Treasurer

Dinner and presentation begins at 5:00 pm in the Linc Up Gallery. Transportation will be provided for those who want to attend the City Commission meeting afterward

 11a.m. – 4p.m.  at Linc, 167 Madison Ave. SE  

Last Saturday, the Southeast Area Farmers’ Market set up shop in LINC’s parking lot at 167 Madison Ave. SE.  Shoppers began crowding around vendors’ tables before they even had a chance to set up. Yes, the location has changed but the vendors remain the same! Stop by for Southeast GR’s finest greens, local produce, cottage kitchen foods and more!

Due to ongoing construction at MLK Jr. Park, the market will operate at LINC on Nov. 4 and 11. The market will not take place Oct. 27.

As always, we welcome Bridge Card, SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC ,
Sr. Project Fresh and SEAFM Market Bucks.

 

Neighborhood meeting to address dangerous chemicals contaminating Hall/Madison neighborhood

Come to the LINC Gallery, 341 Hall St. SE, for a community meeting Thursday, April 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to learn about the investigation and clean up of dangerous chemicals in the Hall St. and Madison Ave. area.

epa-se-gr-updated-mapRepresentatives from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the Kent County Health Department (KCHD) along with a doctor and fellow residents will take questions from the community.

LINC offers civic engagement opportunities

lincOn Mondays, LINC invites city residents to gather at the LINC Gallery at 5 p.m.,  eat dinner take a 6 p.m. bus to the 6:30 p.m. GRPS school board meeting. On Tuesdays, gather at the LINC Gallery at 5:30 p.m.,  eat dinner take a 6:30 p.m. bus to the 7 p.m. GRPS school board meeting.
Residents taking part  will look at specific action issues that they may want to work on. “It isn’t just attending the meetings for the sake of attending the meetings,” says Stephanie Gingerich, Real Estate Development Director for LINC Community Revitalization Inc. “Although I do think that people’s presence in the audience is a statement in and of itself.”
